The SEA Cup ended today in Bandung Indonesia. The event started on 25th April and finished on 29th April. A total of 5 countries participated in the event. They were Indonesia the hosts (who fielded two teams A and B), Thailand Singapore Philippines and Malaysia. The event which is held biennially is essentially a preparation of teams for the forthcoming SEA Games in Manila next year. SEA Squash Federation’s goal is to keep it relevant and sustainable for the greater good and development of squash in the sub-region. This year the event comprised an individual event and a mixed team event. The mixed team event comprised 3 Men and 2 women per team. The average age of the young Malaysian team is 16 and they are as follows : Men-1.Farez Izwan(19years) 2. Danial Nurhaqiem (16 years) 3. Duncan Lee(15 years) . Girls – Jessica Keng (15 years) , 2. Aira Azman (13 years) 3.AinaaAmpandi.(16 years) We sent a very young team to the games to give them exposure at such an event.
In the individual event Jessica Keng was brilliant in her victory in the finals against the senior and seasoned PSA campaigner Filipina Jemyca Aribado 3-2. In the men’s Farez put up a gallant fight against another experienced Filipina Andrew Garcia. Farez had to settle for silver.
In the mixed team event Malaysia got to the finals by beating Indonesia ‘B’ 5-0 and Singapore 4-1. In the semi finals we beat Indonesia A 3-2.

Next on was Aira. What a performance by this 13 year old. A 3-0 victory to clinch the title. Syabas the young Malaysian team.
Overall I must say that I’m very pleased with the way the players have performed. “I wish to single out Jessica King who as an underdog upset the very established professional player Jemyca Aribado from the Philippines to win the Individual title. The rest of the players performed extremely well to give Malaysia a well deserved Gold in the mixed team in the 2018Sea Cup. I am delighted with the quality performance of our young team. This augurs well for the future of Malaysian squash in particular at the junior level
