Yow and Syafiq earn Semi Spot

Wednesday, 24/5/2017, Ng Eain Yow and Syafiq Kamal both book their spot in the semifinal of the OHANA 33rd National Squash Championships at NSC Squash Complex, Jalan Duta. Yow earn his spot by upsetting the 3/4 seed, Elvinn Keo, 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 11-5) while Syafiq Kamal had to work hard to see of compatriot Muhammad Addeen Idrakie 3-2 (7-11, 12-10, 11-4, 7-11, 11-6). The match latest for almost an hour forty five minutes. Yow will be facing current 2nd seed, Ivan Yuen who beaten former Sea Games Medalist, Sanjay Singh 3-0 while Syafiq Kamal will face first seed, and defending nationals champion, Nafiizwan Adnan. Nfiizwan Adnan who also won his quaters final match agains former national champion, Ong Beng Hee, 3-0 (11-1, 11-7, 11-5)

For the Women Premier, all top seed manage to secure a spot in the semifinals matches’ tmrw. Aifa Azman who had to pull out from the championship due to an injury obtain during her first round match, has given a walkover to Teh Min Jie. Min Jie will next face best friend Rachel Arnold in the semifinals tomorrow. Rachel who had earlier beaten rising junior player, Ooi Kah Yan 3-1 (11-5, 9-11, 11-9, 11-5). In the other hafl off the draw, Nicol will next face Andrea Lee tomorrow in the semifinals. Nicol had no problem beating junior player, Chan Yiwen earlier 3-0 while Andrea Lee beaten Zoe Foo, 3-0 (11-7, 11-6, 11-3).

Meanwhile in the other divisions, Mens Division 1 saw Mohd Amir Farhan secure his spot in the final with Siow Yee Xian. Amir Farhan seeded 5/8 managed to beat player’s higher rank than him to ensure that he’s in the final. Amir Farhan who was 2-1 down managed to keep his composure to ensure that he beat Daryl Gan with a score line of 3-2 (8-11, 11-5, 4-11, 12-10, 11-4). In the other half of the draw, Muhammad Aqif Ampandi superb form came to an end when Siow Yee Xian secure a win over him with a score line of 3-1 (7-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-8). “I was tired following a hard match with Danial Nurhaqiem and Dheena Dharshan in the earlier rounds. I am happy with my performance and will try again next year” said Muhammad Aqif Ampandi.

For Women Division 1 will be similar faceoff between Sharon Wee and Jessica Keng. Both of them was also int he finals of Division 1 Women in last year’s nationals. Sharon Wee had no problem securing her spot by betting Noor Aina Amani bt Ampandi, sister to both Mohd Amir Farhan and Muhammad Aqif. In the other semifinal, Jessica Keng beaten Kiroshanna a/p Manoharan with a scoreline of 3-1 (5-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-8)

Semifinals matches for Premier Divisions continue tomorrow at NSC Squash Centre, Jalan Duta. Matches begin’s at 5.00pm
