Squash 57 Roadshow

The month of January saw a couple of stops in Perak and a new initiative to conduct the Squash57 Roadshow for Clubs. Dunlop has kindly agreed to sponsor a box of balls to Clubs who are interested to host the roadshow. The first Club visited was New Club Taiping on 21st January. A good turn up by the regular squash players who have now decided to pick up Squash57 after being introduced to the game when they visited Penang Sports Club in December 2017. Many thanks to Mr. Tan Vooi Gin and Mr Yeoh Hoe Thiam (Captain) for making all the arrangements to host the roadshow. We look forward to New Club Taiping forming a team to participate in future inter-club Squash57 Invitational tournaments.

On the same day, after the New Club Taiping visit, made a stop at Ipoh, hosted by Perak Squash Association organized by Mr. Low Sean Hooi, President of Perak SA. A group of squash players showed up at the Thaveethin Kudaram Church squash courts as the state courts are under renovation for SUKMA. After the usual introduction to the rules, KK Chee sparred with a few players who were brave enough to try the game, including the Perak Pakistani coach. KK Chee presented the Dunlop rackets and balls to Mr. Low to continue promoting the game in Ipoh.

On 26th January, KK Chee made a trip down to Seremban to conduct a Squash57 roadshow for the Royal Sungei Ujong Club, hosted by Mr. Haridharan, the Captain of the Squash Section. The Club had made great effort to publicise the event with a big banner in front of the Club. It is interesting to note that the game is starting to attract not only squash players but also other sports such as tennis players. We have the club Tennis coach as one of the participants. It certainly provides new opportunities for tennis players to take up the game as an alternative sport at times of bad outdoor weather. Special thanks to Mr Haridharan for being a great host and kindly provided accommodation for an overnight stay at the club.

The SRAM Squash57 Sub-committee has been working closely with Dunlop to bring in an affordable racket for beginners (Predator) and a competition racket (Biomimetic Ultimate) for experience players (see pictures above). The rackets will be available sometime in April/May of this year. With that, and taking a break for CNY in February, the subcommittee has decided to resume the roadshow once the rackets have arrived, hopefully in April 2018.
